Welcome to All Saints A BRAND new set of front doors were flung wide to welcome visitors as Stanley Common's church revealed its £140,000 makeover. The United Church of All Saints, on Belper Road, closed in September for work to construct a new entrance with toilet and kitchen facilities to take place. It reopened on Monday with a soundproof screen to create a multi-purpose meeting room, while the heating system was upgraded and there was a complete redecoration. The extension was designed to include memorial bricks and stone rescued from Stanley Common Methodist Church when it was demolished. The £140,000 project was funded with £80,000 from the sale of the methodist church, a £35,000 get from Biffaward and several smaller grants from the Central Church Fund, East Midlands Airport and Erewash Borough Council. Among them was £300 from Help the Aged for chairs with arms, for use by the elderly. "The church is now well equipped to meet 21st Century needs." And Biffaward chairman Martin Bettington added: "Biffawand is lighted to support this projet in Stanley Common, which will bring more flexibility in the way that the church can be used. Everyone who attends services, groups meetings, concerts and events will benefit" In addition to the regular programme of Sunday services, midweek meetings and vis- its from school, new events and groups are likely to use the new Community Room. The church's next project will be collecting chairs for the worship area.
