Notes From Parish Magazines

January 1905

Extracts From The Holy Trinity Monthly Magazine of 1905.

The Vicar Rev C E Lane wrote in fine detail about Christmas Day and as it fell on a Sunday it caused its observance to have more of that sacred character which is its due than is sometimes the case. There were thirty nine Communicants at the early Celebration and at mid-day, with some being kept away by the prevailing influenza.

The church was prettily decorated by Mrs Lane, assisted by the Vicar, with gifts of holly most kindly sent in by Mrs W Hobson and Mrs Wyatt. A quantity was also sent from Shipley Hall and the Vicarage.

Boxing Night Dance – The Committee of the Dancing Class arranged for a Grand Ball on Boxing Night. The Institute had been charmingly decorated for the occasion; and the band, under the able direction of Mr Downing, played most attractive music. There was a large crowd present and everyone enjoyed themselves. Messrs Steele and Cook carried out the duties of M.C.’s with entire satisfaction.

On Friday evening December 16th, the annual dinner in connection with the Cricket Club was held at the Black Horse Hotel where Host and Hostess Beer provided a substantial repost to about 60 members and visitors. After dinner the chairman proposed the health of “The King”.

Rev Lane writes
The year just passed has contained many events which give rise to thankful feelings; though, on the other hand, we miss today many of the old familiar faces. But as in the old year brightness and sadness, good times and bad, have followed each other closely, and all alike have come from a wisely ruling Providence, so we look forward to the New Year in a spirit of trust and hope.

The Cricket Club held their Annual Supper on Friday evening, December 16th 1904.
